All participants are deemed to know the course of fire. The Range Officer will give only outline instructions and will be under no obligation to provide anything more than those orders necessary for the conduct of the shoot.

At the beginning of each stage the Range Officer will identify the course of fire and the relevant stage. The Range Officer will then call out, "load and holster"; followed by "targets away". At the completion of each stage the Range Officer will call out, "unload, clear the weapon and holster" At end of the course of fire the Range Officer will call out "all weapons are holstered, forward and score".

At the beginning of the shoot the competitor must have on his person the holstered weapon, spare magazines or speed loaders, together with 45 rounds of ammunition. Pistol, magazines and ammunition must be secure. Any equipment that falls to the ground whilst moving between the stages cannot be recovered until the shoot is complete.

At the 25m stage the pistol will not be drawn and made ready until the shooter is in the prone position and the weapon pointed down range. When changing position the weapon will be either empty, or any safety device available applied and the shooter's finger will be off the trigger.

Whilst moving to the 15m, 7m or 5m lines the shooter must not hold the weapon but may rest one hand on the holster. The weapon will not be drawn or made ready until the shooter is on the appropriate line.

At the 15m stage the shooter will be on aim with finger on the trigger.

At the 7 metre line the shooter must return to a standing alert position between the two 10 second exposures of the target.

At the 5 metre stage when the weapon is drawn and made ready it must at all times be pointed in the direction of the target before being fired one-handed, unsupported. When changing hands the weapon will be pointed only in the direction of the target.
